About the investment conference

Please find the live stream here

The South Sudan Investment Authority (SSIA) in partnership with the Government of South Sudan is organizing the South Sudan Investment Conference on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th December 2013.

The Conference objective is to showcase to regional and international investors the business and investment opportunities in South Sudan with the aim of crafting a clear roadmap for its diversification programme. The conference will additionally , provide a platform for political leaders and decision makers of South Sudan to interact with international investors and CEOs to spearhead the transformation process through an open dialogue on South Sudan challenges and opportunities.

Resource persons and panelists will critically examine the government reform programme, assess the attractiveness of South Sudan as the newest investment location, shed light on the realities of operating a business in South Sudan and identify emerging investment opportunities.

The organisers are aware that with so much information, studies and reports available on the web on a country’s business climate, it is unlikely that a foreign investor would expect South Sudan to rank high in terms of business climate. However, where risks are high so are the returns. All the societal and infrastructural challenges in South Sudan are Investment Opportunities in disguise.

It is also worth noting that investors have now understood that an improved business climate is rather a result of economic development than a cause of economic development. There is therefore, no reason not to uncover during the conference the gaps in terms of policy reforms as long as the South Sudanese government is able to convince the investors that it has the means, the political will and a plan to bridge those gaps. This is one of the messages which will be conveyed both during the plenary and sectoral sessions of the conference.

The investment conference will also pave the way for intense investment promotion activities for year 2014 with a focus on Post Conference Investor Services.
